I’ll admit it, I underestimated Whiskey Tip. I had driven by it hundreds of times without ever considering going inside. I figured it was just your normal everyday, neighborhood bar. I was wrong. In addition to being a great neighborhood bar with fresh cold beer on tap, flat screen TVs and billiards tables, they also have a robust pre-Prohibition craft-style cocktail program. When I stopped by Bar Manager Jamie Roumbanis was hand grating ginger for their signature Moscow Mule. True to their name, they also have a selection of over 200 different types of Whiskey on hand ranging in price from $5 a pour to $180 a pour, including their very own barrel of Old Forester Kentucky Bourbon!
If that isn’t enough to get you down to Whiskey Tip, then their Event Calendar should do the trick. Owner Josh Porter has something going on just about every night of the week, including Live Music, DJs, Edgy Open Mic Nights, Trivia Nights, Girls Night Out, and the Raucous Extreme Midget Wrestling! (You read that last bit right, Extreme Midget Wrestling)
They also have an enormous outdoor patio/beer garden, decorated by local artists, where they are serving up delicious street tacos & papusas. The night I was there the incomparable Black Sheep Brass Band was on the main stage filling the space with their “unique brand of California grown, 100% certified #BRASSfedFUNK, that permeates all layers of being” (That description is from their website, because I couldn’t have described it better myself). If you haven’t heard the Black Sheep Brass Band, you owe it to yourself to find their next gig and make your way to it. www.BlackSheepBrassBand.com
And if you are sitting at home wondering what you are going to do tonight, now you know. Get down to Whiskey Tip!
